Final Fantasy XIII
« on: March 09, 2010, 02:08:50 pm »
So like, it's out now. My gf got it for me while I was in class and I'll probabably  be starting on it when I get home tonight.

Anyone else got it or is planning on getting it? How far are ya on it?

Can you tell you gf to mail me a copy?
:(

I will get it but not for now, no time for it. DO NOT POST SPOILERS OR I WILL KILL YOU.
But yea the reviews are only giving it 8 to 9 out of 10. Which is below the usual 9 to 10 out of 10. Saying it's too linear.... but I think I will enjoy the linearity since I have been getting impatient with jRPGs when it comes to grinding and walking on every single cell just to see if there's hidden treasures.

No mini-games though, what a bummer. I want my chocobo racing, card swapping, blitzball mini-games back!

I JUST now got it and I'm watching the opening video, hasn't showed any spoilers yet... they're just like the most technologically advanced out of all the FF games and the graphics are insane.

Oh yeah, it's VERY sexy.  Kind of like dress sphere changing in the middle of battle from X2, just for your whole party.

And Vanille... I don't know what it is... a mixture between English and Australian? And she's way too perky.

Gackt is the prettiest FF character that really exists.  So much that many post-ffvii chars are based on him and/or voiced by him.

So I couldn't resist and brought the game. Even ordered the strategy guide but that won't come in a week or 2. More reading materials for my bathroom, yay.

Alright. Even though I still haven't finished it, I think I can give a better opinion about the game now. No story spoilers, just gameplay spoilers :)

alright. I personally am really enjoying the story and the battle system, although i wish it weren't so linear. Seriously, the first 20 or so hours you're basically running on rails. I miss my overworld :( I miss being rewarded with some time off after a boss battle, but here we get thrown directly into more action most of the time.

I do like the crystarium system. Although the capping betweethe chapters kinda ruins it. The caps are supposed to be there in order to prevent having to level grind, but what it ends up doing is basically taking away the freedom of character customization. Unless you decide to save your points between chapters, but then your other roles will turn out shitty.

I'm giving alot of negative feedback, but that doesn't mean I don't like it. Quite the opposite. I really like the story and the voice acting. I've even gotten used to Vanille's voice! :0

Overall though, it's not what I would have expected from the series. Yes, I do like it alot. I like the story, I like the visuals. I just miss my freedom.

You get freedom towards the end though, for exploring and side-quests, even the crystarium system. I think I will like what they did to restrict us. Why? Because as a grind master I always ruin my late/end game by being way, way too powerful from the start. I usually get bored towards the end of every RPG, and the only thing I play for by that point is to finish the story. So for once I might be able to enjoy the whole frigging game. We will see.

Also if you have read any of the reviews, the creators said they want players to be focused on the story instead of being sidetracked from time to time. I think in this regard, they have succeeded.

Now Donka. Which is better, this or MGS4!!??

btw I just unwrapped the game, and the back of the disc (the data side) is like all weird and oil embossed or something. What's up with that? The game works fine so I don't think it's defective, but this is definitely the first blu-ray I came across that looks like this. Are yours like this too?

The cinematic is so beautiful, it's like watching Avatar again haha.
